Renault should prioritise Red Bull over its own team – Marko

Renault should prioritise Red Bull over its own works team according to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko.

Red Bull will continue using Renault engines in 2016, although branded under Tag Heuer, despite a strained relationship between the two companies which almost saw them separate had the Milton Keynes based team found an alternate supplier.

Renault meanwhile has completed a takeover of the team it once owned, Lotus, returning it to works status for the first time since 2010. Despite this, Marko believes the French manufacturer would be better off focusing its efforts on Red Bull, rather than its own team.

"We are contractually secure and we have the same status [as their own team]," the 72-year-old told the Salzburg Nachrichten newspaper.

"When I look at the current Lotus team, if Renault has any sense, they should concentrate on us because with that team and those drivers they will achieve virtually nothing at all.”

The Ausrian is referring to drivers Pastor Maldonado and rookie Jolyon Palmer, however it's believed Maldonado may lose his seat to former-McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen, with official confirmation expected next week.
