Nico Rosberg took his fourth win of the season in Mexico, his first since the Austrian Grand Prix nine rounds previous, converting a well earned pole into victory.
The German led from start to finish and was rarely challenged as team-mate Lewis Hamilton, second, couldn’t get close enough to make a move for the lead.
The win moves Rosberg ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in the championship standings. The four-time champion failed to finish the race after an early spin was followed by a crash into the wall.
Valtteri Bottas claimed the final podium spot, overtaking Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat during the restart following a Safety Car as a result of Vettel’s incident.
Local favourite Sergio Perez could only manage eighth, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen and Romain Grosjean with the Lotus driver completing the top ten, denying his own team-mate a point in a close battle at the end.
Kimi Raikkonen failed to finish after a clash with Bottas, which broke the Ferrari driver’s rear-suspension. Fernando Alonso also retired with an engine issue on the second lap.
