Force India are believed to be in talks with Aston Martin with a view to take on the name of the British sportscar company from 2016.
Aston Martin have not competed in Formula 1 since 1960 as a constructor with the David Brown Corporation.
The company has long been linked with a move back into F1, having being mooted as possible title sponsors for Williams.
It has also been suggested that, as part of a potential deal between Mercedes and Red Bull, the latter would take Aston Martin branding before talks between the constructors broke down.
However, Force India now look set to be rebranded as Aston Martin Racing should the deal be finalised in the coming weeks.
Mercedes, which supplies engines to Force India and owns a five per cent interest in Aston Martin, is believed to have given its consent for the deal to go ahead.
The Silverstone based squad’s team principal Vijay Mallya remained coy in the FIA press conference before the Mexican Grand Prix on the subject of Aston Martin, however revealed that talks were underway.
“We are in discussions, nothing has been finalised,” Mallya said when quizzed on the new sponsorship deal.
“We have many options and I will be able to confirm or otherwise when I have something to say. I don’t like to count my chickens before they hatch.”
A Force India spokesman has said: “We continue to have a number of discussions about 2016 and beyond with both our current and new partners who see a commercial value in a relationship with Force India.
“When the time is right we will make suitable announcements in conjunction with our commercial partners. The future remains very bright for the team.”
