Jenson Button has neither confirmed nor denied speculation he is set to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the season, insisting no decision has been made.
The Briton is expected to confirm this season will be his last in F1, with many expecting an announcement at the Japanese Grand Prix – a race Button considers his ‘second home race’.
Speaking on Thursday, Button simply said that talks with McLaren, with who he doesn’t have a contract, are ongoing.
“I can’t give you anything else since the last race,” said the 2009 champion. “There is no more information to give you, you are going to have to wait a bit.
“We are in good talks, the team and myself. That is it.
“We are here to concentrate on this weekend, it is a big weekend, McLaren-Honda in front of Honda’s home circuit, we hope we have a good weekend.”
Button recently stated that he took no “joy” from participating in the sport, particularly racing at the back, but insists whatever future decision he makes, he will be happy.
“There are so many possibilities of what can happen next year,” he added. “So many possibilities…
“I can’t go any further with my comments on that. But I will be happy next year, that is the important thing.”
