McLaren Formula 1 driver Jenson Button and his wife Jessica were reportedly gassed and then robbed during a vacation in Saint-Tropez, France.
The pair escaped the ordeal unharmed, but valuables worth £300,000 were stolen during the raid, including an engagement ring.
It’s believed anaesthetic gas was pumped into their room via an air conditioning unit, essentially rendering them unconscious whilst two men entered the rented house and stole several items.
“Two men broke into the property whilst they all slept and stole a number of items of jewellery including, most upsettingly, Jessica’s engagement ring,” Button’s spokesman said in a statement.
“The police have indicated that this has become a growing problem in the region with perpetrators going so far as to gas their proposed victims through the air conditioning units before breaking in.”
The pair weren’t harmed but were described as “unsurprisingly shaken” by the ordeal.
