Toro Rosso uses filming day to practice manual starts

The Belgian Grand Prix will see drivers getting off the line manually following a clampdown on driver aids and the Toro Rosso outfit is hoping to steal a march on its rivals.

The move is part of plans agreed by the F1 Strategy Group recently to put more focus on the driver. From the Belgian GP onwards, drivers must manually set their own clutch settings for the start of the race.

In an effort to get some practice in, Max Verstappen got behind the wheel of the STR10 during a filming day on Friday at the Imola circuit in Italy, with much of his focus on practice starts in the pit lane.

Meanwhile the team have also confirmed the cause of Carlos Sainz’s retirement from the Hungarian GP. The Spaniard suffered a drop in pressure in the turbo system, caused by a damaged pipe ring clamp.
