Kimi Raikkonen has hit out at the media for reporting “bullshit” claims that he could face a pay-cut if he wants to remain at Ferrari in 2016.
The straight-talking Finn has yet to agree a contract extension for next season, with team principal Maurizio Arrivabene admitting it was still up for discussion pending his performance this year.
That led to reports in certain media outlets that if he wishes to remain a Ferrari driver, he will have to accept a pay-cut far less than his current estimated salary of £18 million ($25m, €30m).
“I heard something about that – I’d be interested to know who wrote it,” Raikkonen said on Thursday when probed on the matter.
“First of all you have no idea what my contract says,” he said, addressing the media. “You never have. Have you seen my contract? So you just come up with bullshit – yes or no?
“It’s the bullshit nonsense you guys come up with all the time. It’s fine with me. You don’t know the contract but you write stuff. You write stuff that’s not true.
“Maybe you should start writing some things that make sense,” he continued. “Write what you want, I don’t really care.”
