Today Lewis Hamilton insisted that he has moved on from the pit stop strategy error in Monaco two weeks ago, that cost him an almost certain win.
In Montreal ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix Hamilton said he “couldn’t care less” about what happened in Monaco, that it’s “irrelevant” and he is now “looking forwards”.
“I’ve decided to move on this weekend, I’ll keep doing what I’m doing because that’s done me pretty well up until now,” he said.
“I don’t look back, I’m looking forwards, I’ve not really thought about the last race for a long time…it’s really irrelevant what happened in the past now; there’s nothing you can do about it so there’s no point dwelling on it.”
When pressed further on the issue Hamilton remained defiant: “I’m not going back to Monaco, I’ve moved on, I don’t even have to think about it…I couldn’t care less…It’s about trying to shape the future…there’s a championship to be won so that’s all I’m focussing on.”
Hamilton also insisted that his confidence in the Mercedes team had not been knocked by the incident. “[It’s] same as always, 100 per cent,” he said. “I have full trust and confidence in the team. We’ve had incredible success together, one race doesn’t dent the solid foundation.”
More generally Hamilton was looking ahead to the Canadian Grand Prix with optimism.
“It’s a good track,” he said on the Montreal venue. “I had my first Grand Prix win here and generally I’ve always been relatively quick here. “But I can be faster so this is the plan this weekend”.
