Bernie Ecclestone is keen to see the return of the Indian Grand Prix on the 2016 calendar, which would see it stretched to 22 races with the addition of Baku next season.
The country last hosted a race at the Buddh International Circuit in 2013 after signing a five year deal which began in 2011. However the deal was halted with two races remaining due to a lack of cooperation from the government.
84-year-old Ecclestone would like to see it return and has set a two month deadline for the organisers to confirm their interest, with a slot on the 2016 calendar a possibility.
“I hope we have a race in India next year. I am waiting for the promoters to come back to me,” he told the Press Trust of India.
“We will do whatever is needed to make sure India is back. There are no added challenges to the event.
“We just need the Jaypee Group to say that ‘we are happy to carry on’ and we can revive the existing contract.”
When asked when a final decision was needed by, he replied: “They need to be in a hurry. Within the next two months, we need to know.”
