Max Verstappen has been with a grid penalty for the next race in Canada in a fortnight following his collision with Romain Grosjean during the Monaco Grand Prix.
The Dutchman will start the race five places lower than he qualifies and has also had two penalty points added to his race licence after being deemed at fault.
However Verstappen claims he was caught out by Grosjean’s earlier than usual braking.
“If you are going that speed and you are quite close to each other you can’t do anything, you don’t expect them to brake there,” he said. “I tried to avoid it, really it caught me by surprise.”
