Jolyon Palmer ended the Barcelona in-season test quickest for Lotus as he completed a late supersoft tyre run to post a 1:26.080.
The Briton dethroned an ill Pascal Wehrlein whose 1:26.497 was four-tenths adrift of Palmer’s time come the end of the session.
Pierre Gasly was third fastest for Red Bull and completed 75 laps, bringing his two day total to 206 after his run in the Toro Rosso on Monday.
Jenson Button reported a “much improved” McLaren and went fourth fastest after 100 laps, just eight tenths off Palmer’s lap in the Lotus, leaving the Briton much happier.
Raffaele Maricello’s day with Sauber didn’t go to plan after he ended up in the barrier when he lost control of the car, damaging the front-left.
