Jenson Button has warned Nico Rosberg not to openly complain about team-mate Lewis Hamilton as the comments will only make the Briton stronger.
Hamilton, who has already claimed he is mentally stronger than Rosberg, came under fire when the German claimed he intentionally slowed down to back the pack up and force Rosberg into the hands of Sebastian Vettel.
Hamilton responded by insisting Rosberg try and overtake if he thinks he’s being backed up, something both Button and former driver Jochen Mass agree with.
“Even if he did slow him on purpose, I would shut up and try to pass him next time. I would advise him to give his responses through his driving,” said the 68-year-old.
Whilst his former team-mate Button added: “Talking in the press about something you are unhappy about only makes Lewis stronger,” he told the Mirror.
“You can only rattle him by beating him, and for every race Lewis wins it is going to get worse [for Rosberg].
“Nico is unhappy and has a right to be, but where can you point the finger? Lewis winning eight [of the last ten races] to Nico’s one, that’s big.”
