Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has told Red Bull’s Christian Horner to get his head down and work harder to close the gap to Mercedes.
It comes after Horner called on the FIA to equalise engine performance to close the grid up to make it more competitive. The Briton claims the FIA did similar things in the past when it dominated the sport for four years.
“When we were winning, and we were never winning to the advantage that they have, I remember that double diffusers were banned, exhausts were moved, flexible bodywork was prohibited, engine mapping mid-season was changed,” he said.
Wolff however is having none of it and simply told them to work harder if they want to beat Mercedes fairly.
“If you try to beat each other and perform at the highest level and then you need equalisation after the first race, you cry out after the first race, that’s not how we’ve done things in the past,” he said.
“I think, ‘just get your f****** head down, work hard and try to sort it out’,” he added, “I didn’t mean the F-word in relation to him [Horner].
“There is this wall in Jerusalem that you can stand in front of and complain. Maybe the guys should go there.”
