The FIA has clarified a report by The F1 Times that the governing body would soon put a tender out to find a single fuel supplier for Formula 1 in 2015.
The World Motor Sport Council issued a statement following its meeting last week in which it outlined plans for a new tender process for tyres and, rather unusually, fuel.
“One of the noteworthy aspects of the new 2013 Concorde Agreement is the new tender procedure for appointing single suppliers in the tyre and fuel categories, for the FIA F1 World Championship,” it read.
We raised the point as a concern, citing the significant revenues individual fuel and oil suppliers bring to each team, such as Ferrari and Shell, Red Bull and Total, and so on.
The FIA’s secretary general Pierre de Connick has written to the teams admitting it was a mistake and no tender will be put out to find a single supplier.
