Ferrari has denied any links to Kimi Raikkonen as a possible replacement for current drivers Fernando Alonso or Felipe Massa, describing the reports as “without foundation”.
Finnish media outlets have speculated that the deal is already done and the Lotus driver will replace Massa – who has been told to up his game by Ferrari if he’s to keep his seat.
The Italian team has however brushed the rumour aside, but didn’t rule the idea out completely.
“Right now, we’re really not giving any thought to the driver-market situation,” a team spokesperson said.
They added that their current aim is to get Alonso’s championship challenge back on track.
“That is our priority [at present],” he said. “Drivers are not a problem for us even if we were to change Felipe.”
If the team were to employ the services of Raikkonen, it would see the Finn returning to the team which gave him his maiden title during the 2007 season.
He left the team in 2009 after Ferrari bought out his remaining contract in order to bring Alonso in from Renault to partner Massa.
