The Bahrain Grand Prix could become Formula 1’s second night race in 2014 to mark its tenth anniversary, according to race chairman Zayed Al Zayani.
The organisers are keen to mark the tenth race in a special way. Whilst the night race is the favourite option, Zayani confirmed other options were being looked at.
“We are looking at many options. A night race could be one of them, but it is not the only one,” he told Autosport.
“It is our tenth race, and our tenth anniversary, so we want to do something different.”
Should the plan go ahead, the lighting infrastructure would be made a permanent fixture, similar to that at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, so it can be used for future events.
The organisers are also seeking to fill the opening slot on the 2014 calendar – which would be beneficial to the teams who are keen on holding a pre-season test in a warmer climate.
