Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali says the Italian outfit’s aim must be to finish on the podium in Australia – believing such a result would put them in a good position to challenge for the title.
“A podium in Australia would be a good base on which to build the kind of successes we need,” he said, convinced they have improved significantly on 2012.
“Unless someone else has done an exceptional job, I’m convinced that Ferrari will be in the battle to the end.”
Meanwhile Fernando Alonso says he needs an improved Ferrari if he’s to win the title, but it needn’t be the quickest car on the grid.
“I need a faster car to win,” he said, adding: “but with a car that is two-tenths [slower than the leaders], I have enough,” he told Reuters.
“I have prepared better. I am better than last year.”
The Spaniard fought until the very end last season, but narrowly missed out on the title despite having started the year with a mid-field car.
