Sauber are set to announce a major new sponsor at the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix in three weeks time, but the company remains a mystery.
In China the team ran blue lettering on the engine cover which read ‘Out of the Blue’ leading to much speculation. Could it be IBM or Intel, with some in the paddock even speculating Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea football team.
Things became a little clearer in Bahrain when the lettering changed to read ‘True Blue’ – the name of JetBlue Airways frequent flyer rewards programme.
Such a deal makes sense with the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin this November and the planned New Jersey GP in 2013.
JetBlue is one of the United States largest low-cost airlines, and serves most major US cities, including non-stop flights to and from Austin and New York from several locations.
Further speculation suggests the Swiss F1 team, which currently sits fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, could be set to unveil a completely new livery in Spain with a return to their former-BMW days when the cars were predominantly blue.
If that wasn’t enough to confirm the tie-up between JetBlue and Sauber, then check out the below image showing a JetBlue aircraft carrying the ‘Out of the Blue’ slogan.
