Jenson Button, after some thought, has admitted McLaren is the team for him and the 31-year-old is eager to extend his current contract through to 2012.
Speculation had linked him with a seat at Ferrari, but with Felipe Massa staying put, that option has all but disappeared.
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh is keen to keep the Frome-born driver and recently suggested a long-term deal might be on the cards, but for now it seems, Button is just looking to take up his one-year option.
“Well, if he [Whitmarsh] takes up the option … All he has to do is say yes, and I will say yes because I want to be here next year,” said Button.
“It’s up to the team as to when they approach me, but for me I’m the happiest I’ve been with the car.”
Button has secured two wins this season in Canada and Hungary and currently sits fourth in the championship, eight points behind Fernando Alonso.
