Team Lotus, the outfit owned by Tony Fernandes, has claimed victory in the case brought against them by Group Lotus PLC, sponsor of Renault.
The court case centred around the use of the ‘Team Lotus’ brand in Formula 1, with both parties laying claim to ownership rights’.
Whilst Team Lotus have been victorious, Group Lotus have also claimed victory and can continue to sponsor Renault with the Lotus brand.
Team Lotus will also continue to use the same name.
“We won. I’m over the moon,” owner and team principal Fernandes said on Twitter.
“Team Lotus belongs to us. Our chassis name stays Lotus. No one can use the chassis name. We are the only Team Lotus.”
It is understood that Group Lotus PLC will appeal the decision by the High Court in London, citing the confusion it may cause among fans.
