The FIA has made a dramatic u-turn after they informed the teams that they would limit the gases blowing over the diffusers at the next race in Spain this weekend.
The governing body has now scrapped such a plan and will allow the teams to continue with their current setups.
The teams took the opportunity on Tuesday evening to communicate to the FIA the difficulties involved in changing their engine map settings with just a few days notice until the next race – with many of the teams cars and equipment already in Barcelona.
It’s thought the FIA remain keen on banning the system which blows hot gases from the exhaust over the rear of the floor and diffuser, even when the driver isn’t on the throttle, thus increasing downforce and cornering speeds.
A ban with increased prior warning is likely to go ahead later in the season, giving the teams more time to prepare for the required changes.
