Fans won’t have to wait long to see the first rain affected grand prix of the season with rain a near certainty in Sepang, Malaysia this weekend.
The race takes place during the monsoon season, worse still, it takes place in the late afternoon, running into the early evening – this is often when the rain is at its worst.
Weather forecasts suggest all three days will be impacted by thunderstorms, giving the teams time to adapt to Pirelli’s extreme wets.
Friday: Heavy rain (62%), with the outbreaks of sunshine. The temperature will remain high, with a max of 32ºC and a low of 25ºC.
Saturday: Scattered thunderstorms, fizzling out into the late evening. Temperatures will be similar to that of Friday.
Sunday: Scattered thunderstorms similar to that of 2009 which saw the race red flagged after just 33 laps, resulting in half points. The rain could last for much of the day, with similar temperatures to Friday/Saturday.
