Saturday’s qualifying session is all but guaranteed to be a wet affair as recent weather reports suggest a 90% chance of rain.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency has predicted some 50mm, which if accurate, could see qualifying postponed until Sunday morning when the weather is expected to improve.
“Up to 50mm of rain predicted tomorrow. Excellent. Sounds just like Norfolk in the summer,” the Lotus team tweeted.
“After the glorious Aussie sunshine, I’m in for a bit of a shock this weekend,” Mark Webber said about the news.
“The forecast is wet, which isn’t unusual at Suzuka; it rained during Friday practice last year and there have been many wet races in the past. Let’s hope there isn’t as much water as there was in 2004, when tropical storm Ma-On wreaked havoc on proceedings. We had to abandon Saturday’s running and qualify for the race on Sunday morning!”
Reports for the race suggest a damp start with the track drying out during the race.
