Rubens Barrichello has taken over Nick Heidfeld’s position as head of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA).
He was voted as Heifeld’s replacement by fellow drivers and members because the German has transferred from his Mercedes test role to become the Pirelli tyre tester.
Barrichello’s vast experience, 300 races and counting, is one of the main reasons he was chosen, despite the GPDA preferring a test driver to fulfil the position.
He will work with current directors Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Massa on expressing the drivers’ viewpoints on aspects within F1.
