Michelin are reportedly evaluating the possibility of a return to supplying Formula One after they left the sport in 2006.
When Michelin left, Bridgestone remained as the only tyre supplier, having agreed an exclusive contract with the FIA.
If the French company is to agree to a comeback, it’s thought several changes must be made to the regulations, including the ability to compete with a rival supplier and the expansion of the rear tyre to 18 inches, rather than the current 13.
They also want payment from each team, something that has reportedly been offered to Bridgestone, after Bernie Ecclestone said he was keen to see them remain in the sport.
Recently, several reports have hinted at the return of the tyre manufacturer, but only this week has an official representative of the company confirmed it’s interest.
“We have not made a decision,” they said. “But [we] are closely following the evolution of the regulations, knowing that we are committed to promoting the technical quality of our products, including also the concept of respect for the environment,” a Michelin representative told Le Figaro.
