An inspection on the rear wing of the McLaren MP4-25 that was due to take place last week has now been postponed until the car is in the garage in Bahrain.
Race director, Charlie Whiting, was invited to the McLaren technology center in Woking to inspect the wing that was reported by the Red Bull Racing team after testing in Barcelona.
Christian Horner, RBR’s team principal, asked the FIA for clarification about the design of the wing that allows the MP4-25 to gain more straight-line speed and has been called “different and innovative” by McLaren boss, Martin Whitmarsh.
Whitmarsh told The Daily Telegraph, “The wing is different and innovative, yes. But we have been in contact with Charlie over a period of several months to check that it complies with regulations. We have been assured that it does.”
Whiting’s travel plans were, however, interrupted as he was due to fly back from South America todaybut now won’t be back in the UK until Tuesday or later.
Autosport has now reported that the FIA will not be inspecting the wing until race-weekend in Bahrain – a bold and brave move by Whitmarsh, one that shows how certain he is that the wing conforms to all FIA sporting regulations.
