McLaren team-boss, Martin Whitmarsh, has acknowledged that there will be some upset between his two drivers at some point in the forthcoming season.
Whitmarsh, who took over as front-man of the Woking-based squad in 2009, puts any frustration between the drivers down to their passion for winning races and championships.
“At some point, one of them is going to feel uncomfortable because he is getting beaten by the other,” Whitmarsh told Planet-F1.
Both Englishmen are poised to be in with a shot of winning the championship next season and neither one of them will want to back down to the other.
In 2007, Lewis’ debut year, a “civil war” errupted between then team-mate, Fernando Alonso after the 24-year old got his season off to a flying start and as a result received upgrades before the Spaniard. Since then, Hamilton has put this “spat” down to “misunderstanding the goals of the team and the how the team worked.”
Jenson has vowed that, whatever the situation within the team, he will remain calm and supportive of his team mate.
“You always go into a team thinking you’re equal to the best in the world,” he said. “Nobody ever knows until you race against other drivers who are competitive. But I’m not going into the first race thinking ‘If he beats me in this race, that’s it, it’s game over,’
“Nor am I thinking if I beat him ‘Yay, that’s it, I’ve won the championship.'”
